Conference highlights
- Choose from a wide selection of hands-on workshops and learning sessions with UBC faculty and students
Explore the concept of the New Green from all university disciplines, including environmental sciences, engineering, business, social sciences, and fine arts. No matter what your area of academic interest is, you’ll have the opportunity to explore how to make a difference your way. - The UBC Centre for Integrated Research on Sustainability (CIRS) Decision Theatre
This isn’t your regular classroom–and you won’t be taking regular notes. In this state-of-the-art facility, you will be working in small groups to create visualizations of the world you want to live in. You’ll be responsible for building consensus and making tough decisions, and you’ll have the chance to see how those decisions would play out in the real world. - The UBC IBWSC Speakers Series
Every day of the conference will feature a discussion with someone who has brought about positive change in their community on a local or global level. From renowned experts on climate change to youth leaders championing global initiatives, you’ll learn how to take those crucial first steps to working toward meaningful change in the world. - Global Action Teams
All student participants will join a Global Action Team (GAT), consisting of 20 IB students and an IB teacher. Meeting daily, your GAT team is a forum to discuss and integrate what you’ve learned in your workshops and seminars. Your GAT team will come up with an action plan that you can take back to school for your Creativity, Action and Service project. - Connect with UBC students
The conference program is designed to give you ample opportunities to connect with current UBC students, many of whom are IB graduates, to find out what university life is like and how to be a student leader on campus. - Get active
Every day of the conference will have time allotted to get out and be active, from the IB World Soccer tournament to swimming laps at the UBC Aquatic Centre or a game of pick-up basketball at the UBC Student Recreation Centre. - Discover the arts
The conference will feature performances and workshops from musicians and artists whose work carries a global theme. - Explore the Canada’s unforgettable west coast
Vancouver and the west coast of Canada are renowned for their natural beauty. UBC’s Vancouver campus, surrounded by ocean on three sides and a forest on the fourth, is the perfect place to experience all that is west coast. The conference includes a picnic in Stanley Park, a harbour cruise and dance; a beach barbecue and more. - Connect with IB students from all over the world
Whether it’s at a hands-on workshop, working in your Global Action Team, or just hanging out on the beach, you’ll have lots of opportunities to connect and make lifelong friendships with IB students from all over the world.
